Sunken Settlement Uncovered

An immersed early Hellenic settlement of 12 acres was brought to light from the researchers of the Ephorate of Underwater Antiquities and the Swiss School of Archaeology in the village of Koilada, in Argolida prefecture of Peloponnese. Lying at a depth of one to three meters, a number of foundation of buildings were identified, which probably were the streets of prehistoric coastal settlements. The divers archaeologists collected a series of pottery items dating from the 3rd millenium BC. The research began four years ago in the marine area of the cave Franchthi with the mission Terra Submersa and the solar boat Planet Solar, which this year was focused on the beach “Lampagiannas” where they found prehistoric settlement remains.
