Carnival Celebrations in Athens

Athens starts a big celebration for all ages to celebrate Carnival, with rhythm and imagination, harmonically combining traditions with modern ideas.

The events begin on February 20  and last March 14, throughout the city and the neighborhoods of Plaka, Syntagma Square, Monastiraki, Thissio, Kypseli, Saint Paul, Koukaki, Kolonos, Patissia, Pangrati, Petralona. The city is filled with carnival music, concerts and masquerades.

This year Syntagma Square is filled with Greece! On Fat Thursday to Sunday, March 6, 10 regions of the country will highlight and revive their famous carnivals and their own customs.

On March 3, the Big Band of Athens Municipality goes latin on 6 p.m. at Technopolis, while at 6:30p.m. we meet at Acropolis metro station to revive the traditional Carnival of Plaka.

The festivities of Carnival complete on Ash Monday, March 14 on 11am at Filopappos Hill, with live music.
