The Capital of Arki

The Harbour of Arki is the sole village of Arki located southwest side of the island. The majority of the inhabitants are engaged in agriculture and fishing. Actually, Arki is a small island complex that consists from the islands of Arki, Aspronisi, Avaptistos, Kalovolos, Marathi, Makronisi, Nisaki Psathonisi, Smineronisi, Tsouka and Tsoukaki. Arki is the largest island of the complex. It is worth mentioning that the three quarters of the terrain of Arki is still uninhabited. As the size of the island is just six square kilometres, it is highly recommended to discover it on foot

The Beach of Tiganakia

The Beach of Tiganakia is one of the most beautiful beaches of the Dodecanese. It is a sandy and pebbled beach with turquoise waters. Tiganakia is accessible through a path that starts from the main village of Arki.

The Festival of Panagia

The Festival of Panagia takes place on August 23. It is a traditional festival held in honour of Virgin Mary. The festival is accompanied from traditional music, food and wine.

Discover Arki

Scattered pieces of land in the Aegean, a miniature archipelago of deserted islands and rocky reefs form the utopia of Arki. As the size of Arki of tiny, there are just a few monuments to visit. The castle of Arki is located in a low hill on the west side of the village. The castle was constructed from a colony of Miletus in the 4th century BC while it was reconstructed from the Byzantines. On the northernmost tip of the island, one will have the opportunity to discover traces of a building constructed from the Italians. Other monuments include the cave of Votsi located in the area of Halaro. In 1943, the inhabitants of Arki found shelter on this cave from the bombardments of the Germans. The church of Panagia Pantanassa is the most important religious monument of Arki. The biggest traditional festival in honour of Virgin Mary is held in the church on August 23. All the beaches of the island are accessible from pathways, so make sure you bring comfortable shoes with you. The most beautiful beach of Arki is the beach of Tiganakia. It is a sandy and pebbled beach with turquoise waters. The beach is surrounded from rocks making it possible to swim even when there are strong winds. Other beautiful beaches include Limnari, Kapsaliasmenos and Padelia.

Arki is the biggest island of the small archipelago located on the east side of the Aegean close to the coast of Asia Minor. The island is surrounded from small rocky islands that constitute the cluster of Arki. These include Aspronisi, Avaptistos, Kalovolos, Marathi, Makronisi, Nisaki Psathonisi, Smineronisi, Tsouka and Tsoukaki. The highest peak of Arki is found at an altitude of 115 meters. By Boat: Arki is accessible by boat from the islands of Patmos. Ferryboats from Patmos operate to the island of Arki. The journey usually lasts forty minutes.
